What Is a Solar Cell System?
A solar cell (photovoltaic, PV) system converts sunlight into electricity. The panels produce direct current (DC), and an inverter converts it into alternating current (AC) for the building’s everyday loads.
Most businesses use electricity during the day, when solar generation peaks, so a rooftop system can supply a large part of daytime demand.
Key facts
- Main parts: solar modules, inverter, mounting structure, DC/AC cabling, protection devices and, for hybrid systems, batteries.
- System types: on-grid, off-grid and hybrid.
- Suitable for: factories, warehouses, offices, commercial buildings and homes.
Lower electricity costs
Use your own solar power during the day and buy less from the grid.
Long-term investment
A system planned around your load, roof and investment goals.
Reduced carbon emissions
Every kWh you generate replaces grid electricity.
Clean, renewable energy
Sunlight is a free, renewable source of energy.
System types
On-Grid, Off-Grid or Hybrid?
Solar PV systems come in three main configurations to suit different energy needs and sites.

Connected to the utility grid
On-Grid Solar System
The inverter converts DC into AC and supplies the building directly, with the grid always connected.
- Continuous power supply from solar plus grid
- Reduces monthly electricity costs
- Residential systems can export excess electricity to the grid
Best for: factories, offices and homes that mainly want to cut electricity bills.
Independent power generation
Off-Grid Solar System
Operates with no connection to the utility grid, usually with batteries to store energy.
- No grid connection required
- Works with batteries for energy storage
- Suitable for standalone applications
Best for: remote sites without a reliable grid connection.
Reliable energy with battery backup
Hybrid Solar System
Combines the advantages of on-grid and off-grid systems in one installation.
- Stores excess solar energy in batteries
- Backup power during grid outages
- Seamless power transition
Best for: sites that need backup power or more energy independence.

FAQ
Solar Cell FAQ
What is the difference between on-grid, off-grid and hybrid solar systems?
An on-grid system works with the utility grid and mainly reduces electricity bills. An off-grid system runs without the grid, usually with batteries. A hybrid system combines grid connection with battery storage, so it can supply backup power during outages.
Which solar brands does ONVALLA use?
Trina Solar Tier 1 modules, and inverters and batteries from SolaX Power (ONVALLA is an authorized dealer), Huawei and SolarEdge.
Does ONVALLA install solar for both homes and businesses?
Yes. Our references range from a 10.36 kWp home system to rooftop systems of more than 1,700 kWp for factories and buildings.
Can ONVALLA handle the permits?
Yes. Permits and regulatory approvals are part of our service process, together with design, installation, testing and commissioning.
Can I monitor my solar system?
Yes. The monitoring platform shows real-time performance, daily, monthly and lifetime energy data and alerts on web and mobile, and can manage several sites in one place.
Do I have to buy the system outright?
No. Besides EPC purchase, we offer PPA for projects from 250 kWp and leasing through partner financial institutions.
